It is lighter than its predecessor but boasts enhanced performance in every operational area. This addition to the G Master series offers increased sharpness with minimal aberrations thanks to an optical design that includes:

  • One XA element
  • One aspherical element
  • Two aspherical extra-low dispersion elements
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements
  • Two Super ED elements

The optical design also features Sony's latest Nano AR II coating, which reduces reflections and ghosting for improved contrast and color.

Four XL Linear motors make autofocus fast and precise for static subjects, with two motors driving each of the internal focus groups. The floating focus design splits the elements into two independently controlled groups for increased responsiveness, both for photography and video applications, with speeds up to four times faster than the design of the previous version.

The FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II lens is the first large-aperture tele-zoom lens with four linear AF actuators, which work to reduce focus breathing and focus shift during zooming. Full-time direct manual focus is available, and the linear response manual focus function changes the manual focus response based on the rotation speed of the focus ring.
