This is a new type of analog capacitive soil moisture sensor designed by DFRobot. Compared to the old soil moisture sensor, it has improved waterproofing performance. Even if the sensor is fully submerged in water, it can be used normally. The corrosion resistance has been enhanced with more laminate designs, so there’s no need to worry about the sensor panel getting scraped by the soil, which could lead to quicker corrosion of the sensor.
The length of the electrodes has been increased, and the circuit performance has been improved, so the measurement range is expanded and the measurement value of the sensor is more accurate! Additionally, the sensor retains the built-in voltage regulator chip and supports a wide operating range of 3.3~5.5V, which means it can be used normally with 3.3V main control boards such as control, micro:bit, ESP32, STM8/32, etc. On a mini computer like the Raspberry Pi, only an external ADC is required for proper operation.
