Description

Description

From 1927 to 1934, Benjamin records and explores the influence of hashish and other narcotic substances through unique experiments with his friends. This process leads him to the "culmination of prose power" and reveals to us the contrast and connection between the objective and subjective meaning of each phrase.

At the same time, his discourse is enriched with sudden nervous laughter, paranoid thoughts, and a "strange" desire for chocolate bars. Benjamin will wander through the port of Marseille, observing reactions in friends' homes and documenting the loneliness of the drug in personal moments, seeking the sadness of a reality wrapped in a "net" and hope in the anticipation of a "breath to blow it away."

Being aware that he follows a long tradition of texts referring to drugs, from Baudelaire to Hesse, Benjamin "draws uniformity from everyday life with a spoon" and in his curved, silver mirror reflects a different way of seeing things.

Sometimes comedic, sometimes tragic, but never banal, his perspective is an invitation to move carefully towards false mirages of intoxication but also a challenge for the discovery of a new reality.
