The Hoya Variable II filter is a variable-density ND filter with two polarizing layers that adjusts the amount of light reaching the lens. Rotating the ring from the “Min” to the “Max” position lets you adjust the exposure, with light transmission ranging from 1/3 to 1/400, equivalent to 1.5 to 9 stops. This makes it suitable for shooting with a wide aperture in bright light or using a slower shutter speed to capture motion.
The filter’s optical glass is made by Hoya. A tripod is recommended for shooting at slow shutter speeds.
