The content of the book is primarily aimed at students of agricultural departments at universities and technical institutes, with its main purpose being to introduce them to the topics of structure and organization of the European Union and the concepts of the Common Agricultural Policy.

The topics are presented with the utmost clarity and with examples, both theoretical and practical, so that they are understandable to any reader who has basic knowledge of Agricultural Economics. The book is divided into eleven chapters, each of which deals with a specific set of interrelated topics. The structure of the book avoids ambiguities and gaps, as all chapters form an uninterrupted sequence and the various topics are interconnected.

In the first chapter, which serves as the Introduction, a brief historical and contemporary overview of the European Union is presented, with special emphasis on its establishment, organization, enlargement, and significant policies. The second chapter discusses in detail the main institutions of the EU, as well as the composition and responsibilities of each institution and its participation in the functioning of the EU.

The third chapter describes the institutions and policies as applied by the bodies and member states of the EU, ensuring the smooth operation of this important organization. The fourth chapter summarizes the various treaties of the EU from its inception to the present. These treaties constitute the primary law of the EU, as well as the legal basis for its functioning.

The fifth chapter relates to the expression of agricultural products policy in the European Union, particularly regarding the Common Market Organizations (CMOs) for agricultural products. It describes their operational mechanisms, as well as the measures supporting these mechanisms. In this chapter, even though forms of policy that have been abolished are included, they still provide a picture of the policy measures that were implemented in the past and the intended goals of these measures.

The sixth chapter presents certain common measures for all Common Market Organizations. The seventh and eighth chapters include the Common Market Organizations of most agricultural products that fall under the common market organization, whether of plant or animal origin. The policy for each product, based on the basic regulation of each market, is presented in an understandable manner following a unified line for all products.

The ninth chapter is dedicated to presenting the Common Market Organization in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Greece is a country with a large production of marine catches, as well as a developed aquaculture sector. Information on EU policy issues in this area will be useful for those involved in fishing and aquaculture.

The tenth chapter mentions certain specific topics related to the enhancement of agricultural products. The eleventh chapter deals with the part of the new CAP, which concerns the development of rural areas. The measures in this chapter constitute the second pillar of the new CAP.

Writing a book on agricultural policy carries the risk of it becoming outdated due to the fact that policies change, sometimes rapidly and at other times slowly, and parts of the book's content may cease to be valid. Nevertheless, the value of the book remains unchanged, as it also includes theoretical topics that form the foundations of agricultural policy.
