The story begins with Kratos serving the gods as an enforcer, tasked with stopping a mysterious dark force that has covered the world. As he searches for the Sun that has disappeared, he travels through Hell, faces mythical creatures, and discovers that the goddess Persephone is planning to destroy the world using Atlas. Kratos must choose between his personal redemption and his duty as a warrior of the gods.

Along the way, Kratos meets his lost daughter, Calliope, and experiences moments of emotional intensity that confront him with the guilt and sacrifices of his past.
