Description

The breeding of productive birds deals with the principles of exploiting birds, always under conditions of their welfare, with the ultimate goal of increasing their productivity. More specifically, it aims at the production of meat and eggs in the largest possible quantity in the shortest time at the lowest cost and with the desired quality each time.

This book includes eight chapters:

- The first refers to the various factors related to the economic importance and structure of the breeding of major productive birds worldwide, particularly in the European Union (EU) and thus in Greece.

- The second concerns the origin, classification, and nomenclature of the six main species of productive birds, namely chickens, turkeys, guinea fowls, quails, ducks, and geese.

- The third chapter deals with the elements of the external morphological structure of these birds mainly from a zootechnical interest perspective.

- The fourth relates to the productive properties of the aforementioned birds.

- The fifth chapter refers to the main breeds of the birds mentioned above.

- The sixth includes the methods of reproduction and genetic improvement of the birds.

- The seventh discusses the methods of breeding birds, while referring to the most common types of breeding of chickens, turkeys, guinea fowls, quails, ducks, and geese.

And finally, - The eighth chapter refers to the general principles of constructing poultry houses, as well as the hygiene of poultry farms and hatcheries.
