First of all, it is quite small in size: length 30cm, width 11.5cm, height 8cm. Also, its performance is excellent: in the first test I put two double-sided printed sheets in the feeder. Each sheet went through in 2 seconds and I can see in the preview that it had simultaneously scanned the back side as well.

I have had scanners with automatic feeders in the past (HP SCANJET 5590 and HP SCANJET N6310), but I quickly gave up on double-sided scanning because the paper had to go through once and then be pulled in again (two passes), and not only was it very slow but it often jammed the paper as well.

With the ScanSnap iX1300, double-sided scanning is super easy, you scan quickly without having to flip the papers and feed them again.

I have already scanned with great ease over 1,000 sheets from bills, receipts, and documents of all kinds.

The ScanSnap iX1300 automatically detects if the paper is black and white, gray, or color. If you have many papers, printed either on one side or both, it also detects blank pages and does not include them in the final PDF (the function is called "Blank page removal" and you can deselect it if you want).

Photo scanning is only for amateur use. You can scan up to 600dpi maximum, while in some cases 1200dpi would be needed. Also, saving is only allowed in JPG or PDF, nothing else. You can simply set it to use the lowest possible compression for JPG. The results are quite good, although I would have liked the final result to be a bit sharper. Some automatic photo enhancement options work relatively well. For photos, the front feed works excellently to avoid any damage from the feeder folding.

The front feed is also useful for worn-out prints, envelopes, small notes, cards, and even large newspaper clippings. I successfully tried to feed a folded newspaper sheet through the front feed (because the width did not fit). However, something very thick or badly folded will not scan well and may get stuck. Everything in moderation.

The smart feature I saw in some videos, where the program automatically gives a successful name to the scanned documents, works to some extent in Greek only if you install the European language pack. You also need to select OCR ("Convert to Searchable PDF") and set it to "Generate a file name automatically." In practice, it is not so useful or successful. Sometimes it gives unexpected names (e.g., an entire phrase from the middle of a document) and you also have to scan documents one by one for it to be somewhat useful. If you scan 10 receipts together, it will give all of them a name from the first receipt in the batch.

What I didn't like is that the company has turned the machine into a closed system: it does not provide WIA or TWAIN drivers to use it with other software. You have to download ScanSnap Home (1.8 GB) and it only works with that. I don't like having to install such heavy software without being able to customize it. Generally, though, a beginner user will find the software useful.

In any case, it is a 5-star machine: very small, very fast, easy to use, with very good results.

(I didn't need wireless connection or network connection so I didn't try it to have an opinion)

Excellent small wireless scanner, with fast and reliable operation. A bit expensive, but a worthwhile investment for anyone involved in document digitization - scanning. And the accompanying software is quite good. I use it with PC Windows 10.

Very small, fast, and user-friendly machine. It has a multi-sheet ADF (A4) and a front input for scanning individual documents (up to folded A3 size). It provides full software with additional cloud functionality for scanning without a computer, as well as mobile applications and OCR. The initial setup with the software is quite simple, although I encountered an issue with connecting to a wifi extender (probably due to the extender, as it works flawlessly with the main router), which I fixed by temporarily connecting the machine via USB to the computer to change its wifi. Overall, it is a very good scanner, especially for small-sized offices.

      • Very small, fast, and user-friendly machine.
