From readers of "Fortunately, We Were Defeated, Comrades" and my letter to Mikis Theodorakis dated September 7, 2003, regarding the "gala" he organized at the end of August of the same year in Makronisos, I received several letters, some praising and others critical. (. . .)
Some of these letters do not limit themselves to issues related to our recent history. They address contemporary topics of broader interest that, to some extent, dominate the thoughts of every thoughtful citizen. Key issues that open or close horizons and ultimately determine our national course.
It is my assessment that with the ideological dominance of the Left, despite its defeat in the Civil War, and with the imposition of its positions on crucial political and ideological problems, our ideological life has sunk into a deep deadlock, has fallen into a coma. Greek society is unable to interpret the modern world, it is incapable of synchronizing its steps with the rhythm of History.
Some readers point out this reality and attempt to interpret it.
