Description

The "Mega Etymologic" (or "Megas Etymologos") was compiled in the 10th-11th century. The lexicographer, who is unknown, used as sources Diogenianus, Horus, Stephanus Byzantius, and others.
In addition to the variety of etymologies it contains, its lexicographic material and the excerpts of works it presents - many of which are lost - give the "Mega Etymologic" special importance.
The first edition of this dictionary is attributed to Marco Musurus (Venice, 1499).
