Definitely one of the most underrated games of the past generation, which due to its low budget was not appreciated as much as it should have been.

    Story

Nier is a spin-off of the Drakengard series and follows the events of the first game 1000 years later, with the protagonist desperately searching for a cure for his sick daughter. Along the way, he will encounter other characters who will help him in his mission to save his daughter and uncover the true nature of the creatures known as Shades.

The plot may seem typical or uninteresting at first, but the twist at the end of the game is captivating, and a second playthrough is almost necessary for anyone who wants to see the depth of the story.

    Gameplay

The action part of the game plays like most hack-and-slash games, with the player being called to face the enemies of the game with weapons or magic. Its RPG elements are simplified or even lacking, perhaps because it is limited to simple leveling up without much character development beyond the choice and upgrade of weapons. However, it is not linear and allows the player to progress the plot or engage with the plethora of missions and mini-games that the game offers as they see fit. The game does not become tiresome as there are enough interesting ideas in the design and proper timing that prevent it from becoming repetitive.

    Music

The game's soundtrack is easily one of the best ever released for a video game, with a melancholic tone permeating most of the tracks and accurately conveying the mood that each scene wanted to achieve.

    Pros

    Strong plot
    Excellent music
    Non-linear gameplay
    Replay value

    Cons

Graphics reminiscent of the PS2/Xbox era
    Relatively short duration
    Low difficulty level
