Description

The book LIGHTING DESIGN, painting on stage in four dimensions is the first book in the Greek language exclusively focused on the design of theatrical lighting. It serves as a manual for the art of theatrical lighting, attempting to "shed light" on the process by focusing on all the elements that make theatrical lighting an artistic creation, while also proposing a basic method for approaching and practicing the profession.

In summary, the role and responsibilities of the Lighting Designer are outlined, and the basic principles and goals of design are analyzed. The nature of light and its properties are studied, while the stages of work and the method of theatrical lighting are documented. Extensive reference is made to lighting equipment and control systems, design programs, as well as the immediate collaborators of the Lighting Designer.

Finally, in order to make all the above more easily understandable, a case study of the performance of The Free Besieged is included as a separate chapter, which was staged at the National Theater in the Eleni Papadaki stage at the Rex Theater, directed by Thanos Papakonstantinou in March 2021.

The book is addressed to both professional and amateur theater people, theater scholars, playwrights, directors, choreographers, set designers, costume designers, makeup artists, actors, dancers, puppeteers, photographers, electricians, stage managers, as well as students of Theater and Fine Arts who wish to gain initial exposure to the subject. Because it is aimed at a broad audience, who may not have prior experience in the field, it is written in simple language, often leaving out details and lengthy explanations that are not deemed necessary for initial acquaintance with theatrical lighting.
