RPLIDAR A1 is an affordable 2D laser scanner (LIDAR) with a 360-degree range developed by SLAMTEC. The system can perform 360-degree scanning at a distance of up to 12 meters. The generated 2D point cloud data can be used in mapping, localization, and object/environment modeling.
The scanning frequency of the RPLIDAR A1 reaches 5.5 Hz with a sampling of 1450 points per scan and can be adjusted up to a maximum of 10 Hz. Essentially, the RPLIDAR A1 is a laser triangulation measurement system. It performs exceptionally well in all types of indoor and outdoor environments without direct sunlight exposure.
The main function of the RPLIDAR A1 performs long-range laser scanning at 360 degrees, creating a contour map of the environment. The sampling rate of the LIDAR directly affects the speed and accuracy of mapping by robots.
