Description

Upgrade the sound experience of your turntable with the Pro-Ject Phono Box MM Black, a specialized preamplifier (phono stage) that guarantees clear and crystal-clear sound. Designed exclusively for Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges, it offers high-fidelity amplification and precise RIAA equalization. With a metal casing for interference protection, Dual-Mono design for optimal channel separation, and gold-plated RCA contacts, it is the ideal choice for every vinyl enthusiast seeking top performance in a compact size.

Specialized Preamplifier for MM Cartridges

The Pro-Ject Phono Box MM is a high-fidelity turntable preamplifier, specially designed to highlight the capabilities of Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges. It offers a stable gain of 40dB and precise equalization according to the RIAA standard, converting your turntable's signal into a line-level signal with absolute fidelity. It is the ideal solution for amplifiers that do not have a built-in phono input or for those who want a quality upgrade from the built-in circuits of entry-level systems.

Armored Construction and Dual-Mono Design

Pro-Ject has placed special emphasis on noise isolation, using a sturdy metal casing that protects the sensitive electronics from vibrations and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Inside, the Dual-Mono design ensures complete separation of the two channels, offering a wide and detailed stereo image. The use of special low-noise ICs guarantees that your musical background remains clean, allowing the details of the vinyl to stand out without annoying "hisses".

High-Quality Connections and Contacts

To ensure optimal signal transfer, the Phono Box MM features gold-plated RCA sockets both on the input and output. The gold prevents oxidation and guarantees long-term stable contact without any loss in sound quality. Connection to the turntable and amplifier is easily made via standard RCA cables, while the external DC power supply helps maintain low energy consumption, which in standby mode is limited to less than 1 watt.

Compact Design and Ease of Installation

With dimensions of just 107 x 30 x 75mm, this phono stage is extremely compact, allowing it to be placed very close to the turntable. This is critical for maintaining signal quality, as the cables from the turntable to the preamplifier should be as short as possible to avoid losses. Its discreet black design fits harmoniously into any Hi-Fi setup, offering professional performance without taking up valuable space on your equipment furniture.

Technical Excellence and Low Distortion

The Phono Box MM offers excellent technical features for its price category. With Input Impedance 47kohms and a Noise Floor of 88dB, it ensures that the dynamic range of your music remains intact. The harmonic distortion (THD) is extremely low, below 0.04%, guaranteeing that the sound reaching your speakers is perfectly natural and free from artificial alterations. It is the result of Pro-Ject's philosophy: "Good sound from sound technology," offering pure analog sound without unnecessary embellishments.

Pro-Ject Quality

As a product of one of the largest turntable manufacturers worldwide, the Phono Box MM Black carries the seal of reliability from Pro-Ject Audio Systems. Weighing only 0.28 kg and with extremely low power consumption, it is a "green" and efficient solution for your audio system.

If you listen with headphones, the hum is quite noticeable. On the speakers, it is not perceptible unless the amplifier volume is very high.

I had been using a (wrongly, of course) noname preamplifier to connect to my home cinema amplifier, and I honestly wonder how I had gotten used to that unacceptable sound that had a hum in the background...
First of all, it is clear that the gain on this preamplifier is much higher while there is no noise or hum.
The low frequencies are much more robust, and the highs are a pleasure to listen to, with clarity combined with the large stereo image presented in an analytical and clear manner in the space!
Finally, the analog sound that I used to listen to in the past, which we have all somewhat forgotten with the compressed digital nonsense we have gotten used to listening to daily…
Now I’m looking to upgrade my turntable cartridge (a common Technics SL-BD22)!!!
    Five stars easily.
I’m not exactly an audiophile ear, but here with 96 euros, I did something that was worth the effort and upgraded my listening experience!

Very good phono preamp for its price category. It might even be the best choice for a turntable preamp under 100€. It was purchased to replace the built-in preamp of an Audio Technika lp120xusb connected to a YAMAHA R-S202D, which does not have a phono input. The result was very good and noticeably better than the built-in alternative, with richer midrange and brighter highs. It is not by any means the best phono preamp on the market, and for this reason, it is not the most expensive either. However, in this price range, it is one of the best if not the best choice.

40 dB gain for MM cartridges or high MC with dual mono circuit, quiet, small and beautiful.
Very good volume and resolution, grounding even though it grounds the red, in this category it is the best.
Do not spend more money on a phono up to 300 euros if it does not have the adjustments you need.
