The myth surrounding Amphitryon, as a dramatic story, especially as a comedy drama, has ancient origins. For this reason primarily, I was motivated to write a few words here about this work, although I know that historical introductions to comedies risk somewhat to partake in the character of the latter.

The first of the known writers who wrote the comedy “Amphitryon” was Archippus, a poet of ancient comedy, who taught it twice, according to Suidae, and who won in the 91st Olympiad, around 415 B.C. It is believed that Plautus imitated this Archippus's “Amphitryon”.

After him, the second was Rhithon, who wrote the satyr play “Amphitryon”, which also appears to have been in the mind of the third writer who wrote a likewise titled comedy, Titus Accius or Maccius Plautus, which, except for the fourth act, is preserved in its entirety…
