Description

Ninety-three years old. The end is not far away. But what luck I have to remind us all of what constituted the foundation of my political action: the program formulated 67 years ago by the National Council of the Resistance!, writes the resistance fighter Stéphane Hessel.

What luck it is for us publishers to have the opportunity to provide readers with the experience of this tireless fighter, who escaped from the concentration camps of Buchenwald and Dora-Mittelbau, this contributor to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, who served as France's ambassador and was declared a member of the Legion of Honor!

For Stéphane Hessel, the primary motivation of the Resistance was indignation. Surely, the causes that provoke indignation in today's complex world seem less clear than in the time of Nazism. But, whoever seeks finds: the ever-growing gap between the rich and the poor, the planet's environmental crisis, the mistreatment of illegal immigrants as well as legal migrants and Roma...

The race of 'more and more', competition, the dictatorship of financial markets, the assault on the rights secured by the Resistance - pensions, social security...

However, to be effective, we must, as in the past, network and act collectively. Let us therefore listen to Stéphane Hessel, who calls us to a 'peaceful uprising'.
