Few books have influenced the teaching of their subject as much as "Linear Algebra" by Professor Gilbert Strang of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Wisely balanced between theory and applications, G. Strang's book manages to present Linear Algebra in the simplest and most direct way. Starting from "ground zero," it gradually builds the structure of basic ideas and methods: linear equations, determinants, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, Jordan canonical form, etc.

At the same time, all the major applications of Linear Algebra are fully analyzed: network and circuit theory, least squares method, fast Fourier transform, difference equations, simplex method, etc.

For the Greek student of Physics and Mathematics faculties and Polytechnics, G. Strang's book is the best resource they could have at their disposal on a topic whose significance can only be compared to that of Differential Calculus.
