In this book, the author studies the universal, timeless, and always relevant "core" of the psychic organ: narcissism. He first traces the evolution and concerns of Freudian theory, and then presents the work of significant theorists and clinicians of modern psychoanalysis (Grunberger, Rosenfeld, Kernberg, Green, etc.), while also attempting a comparison of their orientations.

Finally, he develops his analytical work with an analysand of narcissistic pathology.
