The Life of Saint Porphyrios, Bishop of Gazi the Wonderworker, has been, from the early years of our monastic life, one of our most cherished and familiar readings.

The Life is magnificent because, although he was a bishop, he continued throughout his life the ascetic way of life he had learned in his early years of dedicated monasticism at the famous Egyptian Skete, near the early desert monks and lovers of solitude.

We are pleased to see the Life of this miraculous saint come to light once again, because we have the sense that his devout life marks and influences not only modern history but also impacts the course of events and the hearts of people across generations.
