Description

Motor Only without Accessories

  • For a maximum door leaf weight of 600kg.
  • Non-reversible, permanently lubricated mechanism
  • Up to 12 open/close cycles per hour. (for a 5m door at 20°C)
  • Up to 30 open/close cycles per day. (for a 5m door)
  • Single-phase motor (230 VAC)
  • Mechanism dimensions: 230x210x230 mm (LxWxH)
  • Door leaf movement speed: 10 m/min
  • Motor power consumption: 250 W
  • Motor thermal protection: 120 °C
  • Equipped with a key-operated door for disengagement (manual operation)
  • Protection rating: IP44
  • The gear type is Z12/m4. (12 teeth / module 4)
  • Country of origin: Italy

The main features of the VDS Simply SL600 motor that should be considered when selecting the motor are as follows:

  • Suitable for doors weighing up to 600kg
  • Maximum use per hour: 12 open/close cycles, for a door length of 5m and temperature of 20°C
  • Maximum use per day: 30 open/close cycles, for a door length of 5m

The motor is equipped with thermal protection. This means that in case of excessive use and overheating, the movement is interrupted until the normal temperature is restored. It is logical that shorter doors in a cold environment can perform more cycles than larger doors in a warm environment. If the motor interrupts the movement due to overheating, the door must be operated manually.

The maximum use per day is the optimal use of the motor so that it can operate smoothly for many years. The motor could work more intensively (if the uses per hour are multiplied by the hours of the day) but this would reduce its lifespan. However, occasionally, if there is a need, it could be used more without any particular issue.

Contents of the VDS Simply SL600 Garage Door Motor

The packaging of the VDS Simply SL600 motor includes:

  • motor support base (includes mounting screws and anchors)
  • terminal switch activation plates
  • manual operation keys (disengagement), 2 pcs
  • Detailed installation instructions in Greek

It does not include a control panel, remote controls, safety photocells, rack, etc. It is suitable for replacing an existing motor that has a malfunction. In this case, we use the existing accessories.

Otherwise, we must procure what is required for the installation, such as a control panel, remote controls, safety photocells, rack, etc.

Detailed instructions and dimensions for installing the base of the sliding motor VDS Simply SL600

The installation of a sliding motor begins with the placement of its base. (after checking the wiring) The motor base is anchored to the ground. The anchoring point of the motor must be stable and robust. A base made of reinforced concrete is the best infrastructure for supporting the motor.

After placing the base, it is easier to install the rack. This is done as follows: the motor is temporarily placed 1.5-2.0mm higher than its normal position. Using the motor's gear as a guide, the rack is placed so that it rests on the gear. Once the rack installation is complete, the motor is anchored in its normal position. This way, the desired distance between the gear and the rack is achieved. This distance is necessary so that the motor does not "carry" the door during its movement but pushes it.

The motor base has 2 holes for cable passage. These holes are placed on the left as we look at the door from the side where the rack (and motor) will be installed.

For the installation of the sliding automation base, we follow these steps:

  • Check the support point for its strength.
  • Check the wiring.
  • Attach the square nuts to the bottom of the base.
  • Attach the metal expansion plugs (hammer-in).

Position of the sliding motor base

The correct position of the sliding motor base is a basic prerequisite for the proper functioning of the automation. The position varies depending on whether the door opens to the right or left (as viewed from the side where the motor is). Detailed diagrams follow below.

The correct position of the base is determined by following this procedure:

  1. Place the door in the closed position. The base should be at a distance B from the edge of the door.
  2. Place the door in the open position. The base should be at a distance C from the edge of the door. If this condition is met, the installation proceeds. If this condition is not met, there are the following 2 options:
  • The installation of the door proceeds without the door opening fully. This can be acceptable if the opening is large. Thus, even if the clear opening is reduced, vehicle passage is not affected.
  • Increase the length of the door. It can be extended along its entire height or only at the point where it comes into contact with the rack.

Motor Installation - Detailed Dimensions

For the proper functioning of the motor, its installation must be done at the correct height from the base and at the correct distance from the door. Detailed diagrams and dimensions follow. These dimensions apply in the case where the rack is installed with its teeth facing the ground. (this is the recommended installation method) In the second diagram, the motor has been removed from the image to make the dimensions more distinct.

H1= 18mm (height of motor support base)
H2=72mm (base top to gear top)
H3=15mm (gear top to rack spacer axis)
H1+H2+H3=H1+H4+H5=105mm (bottom of base to rack spacer axis)
H4=67mm (top side of base to bottom of rack)
H5=20mm (bottom of rack to rack spacer axis)
H6=10mm (spacer axis to top of rack)
H1+H4=85mm (bottom of base to bottom of rack)
Ho= height of elevated foundation (the base can be placed at an elevated point for spatial reasons. In this case, the motor is protected, e.g., in case of flooding.

The above dimensions help the installer save time and achieve accuracy in installation. Specifically:

  • In the case of a new motor, the point where the rack will be installed can be calculated. If there is no support point at this height or it affects the design of the door, the motor base can be placed higher (Ho) so that the rack is at the desired point.
  • In an existing installation where the motor is being replaced, it can be easily calculated whether the existing rack is at the correct point or if some modification is required.

Gear for sliding motor VDS Simply SL600

The motor is equipped with a gear for transmitting movement to the door. The gear has protective covers to prevent accidents.

Manual operation process for sliding garage door motor

VDS Simply SL600

The manual operation process of the VDS Simply SL600 motor is extremely simple. We insert the disengagement key into the special lock and open it. In the fully open position, the motor operates manually. Conversely, by closing and locking the door, we re-engage the motor for electric operation.
