In the series titled "The Virgin Marys of the Greeks," there is a concise yet responsible presentation of the history of the most well-known and beloved images of the Most Holy Theotokos among the Greeks.
The love and honor bestowed upon these images become evident when they are displayed for veneration in the capital or other cities of Greece. At that moment, one can see the depth of piety even among those considered secular individuals, who stand in huge "queues" to kiss the sacred image, to place a flower before the Theotokos, to light their candle, and most importantly, to confide "from the depths of their hearts" their problems, pleas, or to express their "thank you" and gratitude for some miraculous intervention in their lives.
For they know that the "Mistress of the World" is the "hope and protection of the faithful," does not overlook their requests, and intercedes for "what is good and beneficial for their souls," without allowing anyone to leave her presence "disheartened."
