Description

Description

The essay on the discourse of postmodernity, as a critique of unrestrained individualism, deconstructs psychoanalytically and sociologically the aspects of the discourse concerning identity, which has become the main ideology of postmodernity.

The criticism of this discourse, however, requires the presentation of the various forms of otherness, which constitute the foundational relationship of the subject with the Other, that individualism denies.

Subsequently, the fundamental civic principles of democracy are presented: Freedom, Equality, and Solidarity, which citizens as individuals tend, in practice, to undermine and renounce with fanaticism or indifference.

The dialectic between the contradictions and conflicts that arise is defined as alienation, which characterizes the later phase of postmodernity in the 21st century.

However, the dynamics of alienation threaten the democratic rule of law. A critical historical and structural reference to the relationship between institutional structures and revolutions, as well as between religiosity and the secularization of institutions in Europe, ultimately highlights the dangers that lurk within postmodern culture and the need to resist them.
