IONIAN UNIVERSITY – DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

Master's Program "Historical Research, Teaching and New Technologies".

This publication is part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution and is imbued with a critical reflection, a product of the research and teaching approach to the Greek Revolution in the academic environment of the Department of History at Ionian University.

This reflection permeates the scientific and educational body of Greek society through a group of young researchers, while intersecting with a core of sensitive educators in practice through the scientific journal of New Education.

The goal of this publication is to provide an opportunity for those directly involved in the educational process (teachers, students, pupils) to study the pivotal historical event of the Greek Revolution using modern experiential, collaborative, and investigative methods. This will encourage them to critically approach its significance, primarily in the present and future, both for Greek society and for citizens, especially the younger generations who are taught History in education.

At the same time, this "teaching experience" can serve as a starting point for reflection and reassessment of the way History is taught in modern schools.

The authors of the volume are: KOSTAS AGGELAKOS, KATERINA ARABATZI, GIORGOS VOUTOS, GIORGOS GIANNIKOS, ALEXANDRA DIMAKOPOULOU, KATERINA KARAKOTSOU, ELENA KOUMENTAKOU, CHARALAMBOS KOURGIANTAKIS, GEORGIA KOUSERI, TANIA KREVAIRKA, SOFIA LAIOU, DIMITRA MANTIS, CHRISTOS MERENTITIS, NATASA MERKOURI, KOSTAS BALASKAS, MAGDA BALAFOUTI, SIMOS BOZIKIS, PHOIBOS MILONAS, STERGIOS PALAMAS, GEORGIA PANTIDOU, PETROS TH. PIZANIAS, EVSTATHIOS POULIASIS, ELISABET SARIGIANNIDOU, KLEIO STAMOU, ILIAS STOURAITIS, PARASKEVI SYRIGAS, DIONYSIS JAKIS, MARIA TSOURTI, KYRIAKI FARDI.

The extended discussions in this course helped me recognize the "enemy" of scientific education in the words of the students, namely the serious gaps in secondary education that were carried over to higher education, as well as the pervasive "cannibalism" of scientific rationalism in the public discourse surrounding the Revolution. This discourse is expressed by various groups in Greek society: the Church, politicians with their commemorative stereotypes, responsible television media, uneducated journalists, especially on television. The "enemy" was also the underlying tendency of many students to obtain a degree without knowledge, a pursuit supported by student political groups. Against all these, I had to build a strong conceptual barrier and, through the course, to establish it firmly.
