The great Athenian philosopher Plato was born in 427 BC and lived until the age of eighty. Recognized masterpieces among his works include the Symposium, which explores love in many aspects, from physical desire to the pursuit of beauty and goodness, and the Republic, which deals with justice and also includes issues of education, gender, society, and slavery.
