Description
The new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is an incredibly powerful camera designed for both traditional and online broadcasters. Its 3-in-1 design allows it to function as a 4K production camera, a 4K studio camera, or a 6K digital film camera!
It is a perfect solution for broadcasters because it uses the lenses and batteries you already have! You can record to common SD cards, UHS-II cards, CFast 2.0 cards, or external USB disks, using common file formats like H.265, ProRes, and Blackmagic RAW. This means it is compatible with all video software and broadcast media management systems. You can even change the lens mount! No other broadcast camera is this versatile!
Get digital film quality for broadcasting
The large 6K sensor combined with Blackmagic generation 5 color science gives you the same imaging technology used in digital film cameras. The 6K sensor features a resolution of 6144 x 3456, making it versatile enough for broadcast and digital film work. When using B4 lenses, you get a 4K window of the sensor for Ultra HD broadcast use. Then, if you switch to a PL or EF lens mount, you can use the full 6K resolution of the sensor for digital film! With 13 stops of dynamic range, you get darker blacks and brighter whites, making it perfect for color correction. Using digital film in broadcasting is a revolution in image quality!
Excellent low-light performance
The new URSA Broadcast features incredible low-light performance, allowing you to shoot using ambient light or even under moonlight! In advanced cameras, ISO is a measurement of the image sensor's sensitivity to light. The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 has a gain from -12 dB (100 ISO) to +36 dB (25,600 ISO), so it is optimized to reduce grain and noise in images while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary native ISO is 400, which is ideal for use under studio lighting. Then, the secondary high base ISO of 3200 is perfect when shooting in low-light environments.
Compatible with B4 broadcast lenses
The URSA Broadcast G2 features a B4 broadcast lens mount that includes optics specifically designed to match the camera's sensor. The B4 lens mount allows you to use modern Ultra HD lenses or lower-cost HD lenses. B4 lenses are fantastic because they are parfocal, so the image remains focused as you zoom in and out, meaning you don't have to constantly chase focus while shooting. This allows you to work much faster! You also have full electronic lens control to adjust focus, iris, and zoom using the camera controls or remotely! Additionally, if you want to use alternative lenses, you can switch the mount to PL, EF, and others!
Built-in ND Optical Filters
The URSA Broadcast G2 features high-quality neutral density (ND) filters that allow you to quickly reduce the amount of light entering the camera. The ¼, 1/16, and 1/64 stop filters are specifically designed to match the image sensor and color science of the URSA Broadcast G2, providing you with additional latitude and better colorimetry. This allows you to use different combinations of aperture and shutter angle in a wider range of situations. The infrared filters are designed to evenly filter both optical and IR wavelengths, eliminating infrared contamination. Additionally, the filter status on the LCD screen can be displayed as a fraction, number, or stop reduction!
Dual Media Slots for Uninterrupted Recording
With dual CFast 2.0 recorders and dual SD/UHS-II card recorders, you can choose the media that works best for you! Both types of media are standard, inexpensive, and readily available at computer and camera stores. Additionally, with dual media slots, the URSA Broadcast offers you nonstop recording! When one card fills up, recording automatically continues onto the next card, allowing you to swap out a full card while recording continues. You have enough speed to record high-quality ProRes and H.265 video file formats, even when working in Ultra HD at high frame rates. You can even record 12-bit Blackmagic RAW cinema files!
USB-C for direct recording to external media drives
The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 features a high-speed USB-C expansion port on the back of the camera that allows you to record to external drives or connect to a wide range of accessories. If you connect a large and low-cost external USB flash drive, you can record ProRes, H.265, or even high-quality 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files for future editing and color correction. This means you can simply move the drive to a computer to work and don't need to waste time copying files. Additionally, the USB port will power the connected drive! You can even connect optional focus and zoom demands to allow full control of the lens.
Work in both HD and Ultra HD
The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is not just an excellent Ultra HD camera, but it's also an amazing HD camera! The high-resolution sensor and generation 5 color science create stunning images with high dynamic range and great color fidelity. But when you need to do HD work, the camera will downscale the image sensor to 1080HD video standards. This helps you get stories on air quickly, in HD or Ultra HD video standards, anywhere in the world! Additionally, when working in HD, the high-resolution sensor allows for sub-pixel image processing for superior images against aliasing and sharpness. The Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 is a future-proof camera that is ideal for HD and Ultra HD production!
Incredible Blackmagic RAW Quality
Common video files have a lot of video processing, so you may lose some of the original sensor details. Blackmagic RAW eliminates this problem, so you get stunning images with incredible detail and rich color throughout the post-production pipeline. Blackmagic RAW also saves camera settings as metadata, so you can change ISO, white balance, and exposure later in DaVinci Resolve. Additionally, the files are small and fast, so the editing response is incredible. Only Blackmagic RAW offers you the highest quality, the smallest files, and the fastest performance!
Built-in Timecode Generator
All Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 models feature a built-in timecode generator, so you can sync all cameras and then edit multiple cameras later, because all recordings will have the same timecode. Simply connect an external timecode generator to the BNC timecode input and the camera will automatically detect the timecode and lock the internal generator. Now each camera can start and stop recording and the shots from all cameras will have matching timecode. Then, the DaVinci Resolve sync bin can be used to automatically sync the recordings and display them in a multi-view for easy editing.
Wireless Bluetooth Camera Remote Control
If you place the camera at the end of an arm or in another hard-to-reach location, you can have full control via Bluetooth from up to 30 feet away. You can download the Blackmagic Camera Control app for your iPad or use third-party apps like Bluetooth+ or tRigger on your iOS and Android devices. There is even a free SDK for developers with sample code available from the Blackmagic Design developer website, so you can create your own camera remote control and digital slate solutions! Imagine creating an app that can jam sync timecode and trigger all cameras to record simultaneously. The possibilities are endless!
