The book is aimed at those who are learning Greek as a second/foreign language and are at an intermediate or advanced level of language proficiency. The goal of the book, in addition to providing language practice and enriching vocabulary, is to offer knowledge of mythology and the ancient Greek world and culture, as well as to stimulate the interest of learners in studying other works of ancient Greek literature.
It contains the 24 rhapsodies of Homer's Odyssey, presented in a concise and simplified modern Greek language. In terms of structure, the sequence of events is followed by rhapsody, as in the original. However, it is a simple retelling of the content of the Odyssey, without dialogue parts, and with intentional omission of many elements for brevity. After each rhapsody, there is vocabulary and comprehension and production exercises for written and oral speech. The solutions to the exercises are provided at the end of the book.
The author taught Greek as a second/foreign language at the School of Modern Greek Language of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is involved in writing related teaching books.
