Unusually it sends out a continuous measuring beam and you can then adjust your position to reach the right distance - this is quite unusual as the other devices I have used are one off measurements each time you press the button on the machine. The constant reading on this tiny unit is very useful sometimes. USB charging which is good too as no batteries to worry about.
