Description

The decision to utilize the former royal estate of Tatoi motivated me to contribute to its message of modernization, which seeks to reconcile the past with the future, preserving historical memories and raising important questions.

For this is also my vision. Through the flashes of the lens and the capturing of moments, I aim to illuminate instances of History and provide an opportunity for both older and younger generations to reflect on the past, seeking remembrance or knowledge through diverse sources.

In order to meet temporally in the present, despite each of our different starting points. The catalyst for this cognitive journey, featuring kings and princes but not resembling a fairy tale, was photography. In a period dense with events, both nationally and internationally.

Thus, with the vehicle of descriptions found in my father's index, the narratives in newspapers and magazines of the time that framed and highlighted the most significant photographic captures, as well as the contemporaneous materials from the National Audiovisual Archive, I attempted to recreate an era with a narrative that resembles a screenplay.

Times were changing. The Society of Citizens was emerging and bringing new realities to Greek society. Consequently, it played a crucial role in the excavation of the Tatoi estate, now awaiting its enhancement. Perhaps, eagerly.

The Tatoi Plan, in combination with the Greek Utilization Plan, makes one imagine how great an advantage it would offer to the Capital Athens, as a modern, competitive, welcoming, global city.

Alexia Koulouri takes a stand in this grand effort, presenting a historical documentary based on a significant legacy from her late father. As a professional photojournalist, Dimitris Koulouris left a rich legacy of moments capturing people, protagonists of their time. An era that coincides with both glorious and sorrowful moments of an estate that rightly should not be covered by the dust of time.
