Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the lens's front. Additionally, as the lens hood is extended, it provides extra protection from any accidents. This flower-shaped lens hood also takes into account the shape and aspect ratio of the final image. It blocks stray light from the upper areas of the hood while allowing more light into the corners of the image through the lower sections of the hood.
