Description

Death, for ancient Greek metaphysics, is the great friend of man because it frees the Immortal Soul from the Prison ('Sign') of the body. For Judaism and Christianity, death is the Ultimate Enemy of man because it separates the Soul from the Body, destroying the human Person (nefes, according to the Biblical Genesis).

For ancient Greek philosophy, Reality has two levels: the Eternal, Imperishable, and Unchanging World of the INTELLIGIBLE (Spirit) and the Corruptible, Changing, and Temporary World of the SENSIBLE (Matter). According to the Bible, the Transcendent God created from Nothing both Spirit and Matter. No Soul is Immortal because it originates, in part, from Nothing. Divine Grace offers it the Gift of Immortality, freely chosen.

In Platonic metaphysics, every Soul reincarnates into Matter. For Jewish Apocalyptic (a literary genre against Hellenistic Culture), the Coming Age is at hand, and God will judge people on the Last Day (Heaven-Hell).

However, a crucial question arises for Christian Eschatology: WHERE ARE THE SOULS IN THE INTERIM PERIOD BETWEEN INDIVIDUAL DEATH AND THE END OF THE WORLD? In any case, all of Christian Metaphysics is based on the Greek Geocentric Worldview of Eudoxus-Aristotle and on the Demonology of Platonism.

While the Revelation of John, using the legend of the RESURRECTED NERO, provides a guide to the Christian Philosophy of History for believers to distinguish True Progress of Humanity from false progress. In any case, for Christian Eschatology, a historical triumph of Christianity is not expected but rather the 'great tribulation,' which will constitute the 'Last Passover' of the (Ecumenical) Church.

Evil will win all the battles against Good, except one: the Last. But the 'New' World will come 'from Heaven' - this will be the Life of the Coming Age. And while Time for the Greeks has a CYCLICAL course, opposing the TIMELESS Eternity, for the Bible, Time is always LINEAR, following a path from Eden and the Fall, to the Future Judgment and the End.
