On the evening of June 10, 323 B.C., Alexander the Great suddenly and unexpectedly took his last breath in Babylon, and the rest of the world... held its own. His death was a turning point in world history, with his empire plunging into turmoil due to the lack of a capable and legitimate successor.

Consequently, the governance of his state passed into the hands of his general associates, the so-called successors, who, however, failed to maintain the unity of the state and instead engaged in a series of civil wars in order to dominate a part or the entirety of the empire.

These wars ultimately led to its fragmentation into Hellenistic kingdoms and changed the landscape of the ancient world, which bore no resemblance to the past. The Hellenistic era had now begun and would leave an indelible mark on world history.
