Description

Breastfeeding is a human right for every mother and every child that comes into this world. Yet, nine out of ten mothers in Greece start breastfeeding their baby only to abandon the effort prematurely within the coming weeks after birth, systematically facing dozens of obstacles to breastfeeding, with inadequate support and undermining.

This book aims to equip Greek women, who are coerced by the bottle culture not to follow their desire - to breastfeed their child. The current system deprives the vast majority of women who want to breastfeed of their freedom of choice. These mothers urgently need arguments and scientific data to counter comments that are hostile to breastfeeding, opposing practices, pressures, and beliefs without any scientific basis that undermine their efforts daily.

Furthermore, this book aims to help convey to the general public the amazing truths that have been rapidly revealed about maternal breastfeeding in recent years through scientific research from around the world. It is also aimed at the immediate environment of new parents and health and non-health professionals who come into contact with young children and mothers. Finally, it interests state and social bodies, as it demonstrates that increasing the rates of breastfeeding children is in the interest - health, economic, ecological, social - of all.

“In the not-so-distant future, I can imagine the day when all the confusion, the misconceptions, and attitudes about breastfeeding in the general public will have disappeared, as a result of two or three successive generations of women who successfully and exclusively breastfed their children. I can envision the day when all Greek women will be encouraged to start breastfeeding and will be free to breastfeed their child, without imposed obstacles, for as long as they wish and can.” [Excerpt from the text on the back cover of the edition]

It doesn't help you learn how to breastfeed nor does it help with practical problems. On the contrary, it completely criminalizes formula! Imagine being a new mother, having read this book, being convinced by it, and then not being able to breastfeed. You'd go crazy!

What can I say about this book... I bought it before giving birth to my first child, in my attempt to learn about breastfeeding as I really wanted to breastfeed. I thought that by reading a book about breastfeeding, I would learn the techniques, proper positioning, etc... However, this is something that you learn through practice. The book deals with the obstacles you will encounter in breastfeeding, its benefits, how to deal with the "myths" of the environment and the misinformation that exists from decades of established perceptions! Therefore, it is worth reading for every future mother who wants to offer this precious gift to her baby.

One of the most brilliant scientists. I breastfeed my daughter for a year because simply things in breastfeeding are not as people think. New moms, get informed...

When I started reading it, I wasn't even sure if I would breastfeed.. It convinced me! With statistical data, examples that make it understandable, with knowledge that it offered me and I had no idea how things work.. It opened my eyes! I highly recommend it! Excellent work!

The most useful gift I received before the birth of my first child. It really opens your eyes! You learn a lot of useful things to be able to breastfeed your baby in adverse conditions, as very few healthcare professionals know and advise correctly about breastfeeding. I highly recommend it!
