Description

The way in which the topics are grouped and addressed in Human, All Too Human corresponds to an aphoristic form of seeking truth. The first volume includes, in addition to the preface and the Conclusion, nine chapters or parts that initially discuss First and Last Things and then the History of Moral Feelings; followed by parts dedicated to religious life, art, culture, family, and state.

This articulation seems to correspond to the traditional organization of systematic philosophy, starting from first and last things, thus from a discourse on fundamental issues as they are posed and resolved, as far as possible, within classical metaphysics. The subsequent parts also seem to fit the traditional scheme of philosophical branches, if we consider the part on the history of moral feelings as moral philosophy, the part on religious life as a philosophy of religion, and the rest as aesthetics, a political philosophy, and finally anthropology (Man with Himself).

However, a more thorough examination of the content will show that we are dealing with something completely different from a closed system, and that Nietzsche actually wants to strip away the dominant 'truths' and ways of thinking of their systematic protections and expose before us the problematic, if not outdated, character of the principles of metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, etc.

It is therefore logical that in the second volume, Nietzsche renounces the nearly parodic succession of philosophical branches and scatters, instead of concentrating, the short essays and aphorisms that make up the section titled Mixed Opinions and Aphorisms, which is no longer divided into parts, like the second, which contains a brief dialogue between the Wanderer and his Shadow.
