Lamberts' Acidophilus Extra 4 is a dairy-free supplement that contains 4 billion friendly bacteria per capsule (at the time of manufacture). Although Acidophilus is stable at room temperature, it is recommended to store it in the refrigerator to ensure maximum potency. The special packaging of Acidophilus protects against moisture conditions, which are known to contribute to the degradation of bacterial viability. The bacteria contained in Acidophilus Extra 4 are freeze-dried at high temperatures and surrounded by an acid-resistant polysaccharide coating, protecting them from the acidic pH of the stomach.
