The work of Aristophanes, likely favored by historical circumstances but also endowed with the super-historical viability of high Art, gradually conquered –through deviations, retreats, deviations, delays, choices, and exclusions, transformations, and overlays– a long-lasting existence within the Greek and global consciousness, both within and beyond its original linguistic and cultural boundaries.

A portion of this vast, geographically and temporally expansive survival, dissemination, and resurgence of Attic comedy in the cultural and theatrical scene, from post-classical antiquity to the early third post-Christian millennium, aspires to be covered in this book, searching for foundations, showcasing joints, and seeking interconnections and counterbalances in this complex –"haunted" by past experiences and refracted by synchronic projections– edifice of reception.

The exploration of the historical journey of the ancient grandfather from antiquity to modernity initially focuses on the field of the modern Greek theatrical scene but also includes in its agenda other complementary "scenes of reception": publications, translations, adaptations, theatrical works, critical articles and studies, film adaptations, other literary works, and other cultural events, as well as the very socio-political and administrative-organizational structures that promoted or hindered theatrical data or requests.
