A long time ago in the imperial court of Japan, the Chinese emperor offered a giant panda as a symbol of peace to the Japanese emperor. Since then, the Japanese emperor has tasked his courtiers (the players) with the difficult task of caring for this animal by tending to its bamboo garden. In Takenoko, players will cultivate plots of land, irrigate them, and plant one of three types of bamboo (Green, Yellow, and Pink) with the help of the imperial gardener to maintain this bamboo garden. They must endure the voracious appetite of this sacred animal for the juicy and tender bamboo. The player who best manages their plots, growing the most bamboo while feeding the panda's delicate appetite, will win the game.
