The Bacscan F-45C digital alcohol tester measures the alcohol concentration in exhaled breath using an electrochemical sensor that responds only to ethyl alcohol. Results are displayed on a backlit, two-color LCD screen, and a visual and audible alarm is activated when the permitted breath alcohol limit is exceeded.

The airflow sensor helps ensure accurate measurements. The device stores the 10 most recent readings and features a total measurement counter and a calibration reminder. The mouthpiece socket is located on the front, and the device is operated with a single button.
