    It is permanently connected to the water supply, but we have it activated (with the batteries inside, that is) only when we are away for days. So far, it has worked three five-day periods without any issues. The only disadvantage so far is the very poor construction of the battery compartment.

    It did not close in time and it went off. The valve inside does not turn enough to seal, resulting in the water continuing to run. This is in an area without particularly high levels of salt and with regular maintenance.

    Of course, it is not worth it or recommended. If the damage occurred while I was away, who knows what water would come next.
