The work of W.R. Bion profoundly marked the evolution of contemporary psychoanalytic thought. Deeply educated, tireless researcher, analyst of difficult patients, such as Samuel Beckett, Bion was particularly interested in the analysis of psychotic thinking, in what can bring together the `mad neurotic` and the `sane madman`, as well as in the obstacles that the psychoanalyst encounters while managing psychic pain, terror, the incommunicable, and the unknowable.
Caring for the epistemological position of psychoanalysis, he provided psychoanalytic research with a tool for analysis and scientific formulation through a methodology that employs models from physics and mathematics. Drawing from the work of S. Freud and M. Klein, he developed an original psychoanalytic theory on the activity of thought and its very early forms, the primitive thoughts.
W.R. Bion left behind a significant body of work, rich and complex. Throughout his work, he remained open-minded, without prejudice, to every idea that could assist him in achieving the goals of his research, the goals of psychoanalysis.
