Description

Description

In "I Am a Woman, That's Why You Kill Me," journalist Jenny Krithara investigates the phenomena of femicide and gender inequality, which are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of women and LGBTQ+ individuals around the world. She also presents ten true stories of women in Greece who have experienced gender-based violence in all its forms.

Femicide: a word that annoys, divides, and provokes. Patriarchy, sexism, toxic masculinity, internalized misogyny, victim-blaming, and sexual objectification: Behaviors and stereotypes that shape, normalize, and justify the intent to commit femicide. Causes that arm the hand of every abuser.

Evidence that gender equality is a letter of the law and not the spirit of the state. Gender-based violence, recorded daily in all its forms, leaves no room for illusions about gender equality. The road ahead is long.

Ten women share their own experiences. Ten individuals who suffered violence due to their gender reveal –without describing anything beyond their lived experiences– how gender-based crime is born, how it is expressed, and how it is concealed. Nothing is rawer than violence, nothing is more violent than inequality.
