The splitting axe is made from polished and lacquered iron. The heavier axe is better suited for larger wood, while the lighter axe is better for the basic splitting of wood for the fireplace. The axe is curved and made from hickory.

The axes from Hultafors are handmade, so their appearance may differ from what is shown in the photos. They are made from Swedish carbon steel using traditional methods that have been in use since 1697. The steel is welded several times for increased density and durability. The axe can be sharpened without reducing the strength of its edge.
