The book suggests reading the events of the 1821 Revolution through the medical and health processes that took place up until the death of Ioannis Kapodistrias, which seem to have started from 1790, if not earlier.

The 1821 Revolution, from a medical and health perspective, had its roots in the transformations of imperial health governance, which manifested locally and in a fragmented manner since the 18th century.

However, the violence of the wartime decade from 1821 to 1831, the emergence of a dynamic medical and bureaucratic personnel, the influences of philhellenes, as well as the medical practices of the early 19th century, which promoted the desacralization of the body and politics, decisively contributed to the institutionalization and stabilization of transformations in the Southern Balkans, thus shaping the conditions for the establishment of Greek public health.
