Misleading label because it only mentions Magnesium Glycinate while in very small letters it also mentions Magnesium Oxide, without of course giving proportions.
After three attempts to contact Swanson USA, I received the following response on this issue:
"... After searching our resources, I found the amount of oxide is not disclosed because it is a patent trademark proprietary blend which means the exact formulation is trade secret. Proprietary blends are based on dominance as the first ingredient 'GLYCINE' would be the MOST and the last ingredient 'OXIDE' would be the LEAST.
The trademark brands TRAACS®, Albion® and Gold Medallion® which are all registered under the trademarks of Albion Laboratories, Inc., and are the manufacturers of this fully reacted mineral chelated formula. The exact manufacturing process is carefully monitored with the state-of-the-art technology called 'Fast-Fourier Transforming Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy.' This technology identifies the bonds between the ligand (amino acid) and mineral.
Balchem® can guarantee each batch of minerals has a molecular structure indicating that chelation has occurred. These chelates bind magnesium with two glycine molecules. Glycine is readily identified and absorbed across the intestinal wall. Albion's glycinate chelates consist of the naturally occurring amino acid glycine that is low molecular-weight and is small enough to transport right into the cells membranes themselves! This chelated magnesium formula has clinically demonstrated to be easier on the gastrointestinal tract than inorganic mineral sources; the buffered form utilizes magnesium oxide to combine high elemental magnesium value with high bioavailability."
Draw your own conclusions, for me this answer is not satisfactory.
Also, the inside of the bottle is 'dusty', probably from the contents of a capsule that has opened and so each capsule has a bad taste as soon as it enters the mouth. Supposedly Swanson is a relatively reliable company, but for magnesium, I will not choose it again.
