This study was completed about six months ago and was heading to the printing press when information from the Onassis Foundation changed the plans. The excellent news was that the Foundation was about to publish online all the documents from the Cavafy Archive, as had been promised from the very first moment it took ownership of the Archive.

Indeed, on February 14, 2019, the entire Archive was posted on computer screens in a way that could only evoke boundless admiration from the well-meaning Internet visitor. In my eyes, the result of this long-term preparation seemed amazing; I viewed the posting as a major cultural event. I admired the methodical approach of the people who worked on the Foundation's program and the quality of the digital reproductions: All the documents were presented crystal clear, easily readable, and accessible with exceptional ease.
