Description

Uncovering widespread misconceptions and harmful biases. This book will reveal everything you need to know about menopause. Menopause is not a disease; it is a programmed change, much like puberty.

Just as girls prepare for puberty, women should be educated about menopause much earlier, rather than being left alone with troubling symptoms and a plethora of conflicting information. Because when they understand what is happening to their bodies, they can assess it accurately and seek the appropriate help when needed.

Following the great success of The Vagina Bible, gynecologist Jen Gunter, with honesty, humor, and practical advice, debunks misogynistic mindsets and relies on scientific data to shed light on issues such as:

  • Perimenopause
  • Hot flashes
  • Sleep problems
  • Sex and sexual desire
  • Depression and mood changes
  • Skin and hair issues
  • Outdated treatments
  • Breast health
  • Weight and muscle mass
  • Preventive screening

This book and The Vagina Bible deserve a special place in the library of every woman. They are equally useful for doctors as well.

Unlike puberty, menopause – although it also concerns every woman with ovaries who lives long enough – is surrounded by secrecy. It is not taught in schools, and healthcare professionals rarely talk about it in advance. Only after a woman mentions a problem can menopause be discussed as an explanation. In Western societies, any reference to it carries a negative connotation – in tasteless jokes or descriptions as if it were a disease. This stems from the harmful belief that women lose value when they no longer have the ability to reproduce, as well as from the false assumption that menopause is a biological defect, because there is no equivalent in men, who produce sperm even in old age.

American-style, it won't be useful to an average Greek woman, in my opinion. Many hard-to-interpret medical terms, excessive and tiring is the narration of the author's personal experiences. The translation, also, didn't seem the best to me.
    I wouldn't recommend it.

Purely scientific approach. Nothing more, nothing less. Simply, I expected it differently. Maybe with some tips on female psychology.
