I installed it on a dlink poe router because I needed an extra port. It is an rj45 port for connection with copper. The connection of the port was made to another simple router port. Absolutely no problem, just be careful it does not auto negotiate at 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps. If you connect with a 100Mbps port it will not work. It requires 1000Mbps.
