This volume publishes the proceedings of a scientific event organized by the Medical Law and Bioethics Study Group regarding the recognition of gender identity, in light of the Draft Law from the Legislative Drafting Committee of the Ministry of Justice, which had already been submitted on 18.11.2016.

In the appendix of the volume, readers have the opportunity to find and compare both the bill submitted by the Legislative Drafting Committee to the Minister, along with its justification report, and the form that the bill took when submitted to the Parliament by the Ministry of Justice, as well as the form in which it was ultimately passed.

This allows them to follow the long, arduous, and not always satisfactory process in terms of outcome that was necessary for the first step toward recognizing gender identity in our country.
