Hard Drive Cloning

I've had it for almost a month, I've tried various old drives from 500GB to 2x4TB and everything is fine except that it doesn't have its own fan for the hard drives and the old ones get quite hot (however, after some time in stand-by they go "to sleep" and their motor stops).
The previous ICY BOX dock I had, the IB-141CL-U3 with 4 SATA HDD slots, had some issue with Windows and whenever I did a shutdown (both on mine and on a friend's who had the same one) problems arose in the file allocation table. It was as if its controller wasn't 100% compatible with all drives. This seems OK in all the tests I did on it - the only thing I haven't tried is cloning an HDD without the PC (at some point I'll try that too, it's not urgent).
