Never before in the history of humanity has a classical work of the highest intellectual conception and perpetual relevance for centuries, received so many conflicting judgments and numerous theories and theoretical discourses, so many erroneous commentary interpretations and numerous misinterpretations, ultimately so many futile attempts at degradation or even deconstruction from the lofty pedestal of History, where it stands resilient for ages and radiates light illuminating human thought.
Throughout the ages, the Homeric Epics, since antiquity, have inspired legions of poets, philosophers, historians, writers, and generally thinkers, who reproduced heroic epics with similarities to the Iliad and the Odyssey from various versions of the so-called Epic Cycle, most of which, however, have not been preserved.
In antiquity, it was inconceivable to question the authorship of the Homeric Epics, and only the deranged could express doubt. The poems of the Epic Cycle created a multitude of versions and similar stories, which nevertheless radiated the creative intellectual force of the Greeks and advanced spirit and culture worldwide.
However, inevitably, a genuine chaos of versions was created, providing an opportunity for criticism of Homer's work, even questioning his existence as a person, giving fertile ground for the very Friedrich Wolf to assert that Homer never existed and to conclude in his "Prolegomena" that he became a simple reproducer of the writings of foreign sages.
Unfortunately, the baton of detractors was taken up by our own renowned philologists of the last century, replacing the term "separators" with the less disturbing "analytical." Nonetheless, it is an undeniable fact that over the centuries many fallacies or even falsehoods have infiltrated, which mixed with the true, trivializing them as well, so that today the general public knows very well what Homer never said and remains completely ignorant of what he actually said.
This confusion attempts to be dispelled by this book, but also to bring a new surge of information, which has been overlooked by antiquarians, in an effort to summarize the scattered and confusing informational material in an understandable way, so that the person of the 21st century, who lives in an era of great disputes and great achievements, can comprehend the enormous intellectual contribution of the genius Homer, which will eternally accompany him even in his epic journey towards the universe and the stars, many of whose names emerge from his work.
