Description

Description

This book critically analyzes and evaluates gender equality policy as a distinct public policy at the international, European, and national levels.

The first part of the study refers to the UN women’s policy, from feminist interventions during the formation of the League of Nations (1919) to gender equality in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The second part, concerning the European Union, starts with the Treaty of Rome (1957) and ends with the European Strategy for Gender Equality (2020-2025).

The third part, which focuses on Greece, begins with the Constitution of 1975 and extends to the abolition of the autonomy of the General Secretariat for Gender Equality in June 2019.

The study highlights the factors that promoted gender equality policies at these three levels of policy exercise, as well as the obstacles and resistances faced in their development and implementation.

Particular attention is given to the political and economic circumstances, the priorities of policy-making institutions, women's and feminist demands, and the role of feminists in critical political and administrative positions both within and outside the institutions.
